Vitruvian Thing presents the first instalment of a new event series, titled “Container”. The initiative aims at grouping short-form works together, to facilitate a presentation to a live audience. The works themselves, while independent from each other, will share Vitruvian Thing’s stage that will, for all intents and purposes, provide a breeding ground for future outcomes.
In Good Hands
Inspired by theatrical manuscript “Under Control” by Frederic Sonntag, the work is an attempt to explore our relationship with control. We find ourselves in a state where all individuals act and behave as a supervisor, constantly trying to quiet down any feeling. The atmosphere created shifts between anxiety, fear and small outbursts of freedom. Under these conditions, when is a situation considered to be under control, and for how long? Who is responsible for this balance and how can he acquire it? How important is this responsibility?
Α five act dance duet, with the punk subculture as a point of departure. Each act is based on punk song lyrics by Panx Romana, Vandaloup, Omichli, Kill the Cat, Ten Beers After. The two performers seek and construct existential space where it is not given. They explore the contradictions and limitations of youth movement, social inclusion, mass culture, subculture, and the creative process itself. They match the unmatched, they take position, get angry, move, get displaced. They mix styles, rhythms, lyrics, images, they catch fire, they dream. They create their own performative heterotopia, which can only be born from real life.
