How do complex patterns in nature, like the intricate geometry of a snowflake or the synchronised swirl of a bird flock, form without a designer? What connects the behavior of an insect colony to a computer program that seems able to converse naturally with humans? In their latest work, Die Wolke explore emergent behavior through an interactive lens: The performance dives into the nature of consciousness and the experience of everyday life, questioning how language, as a system governed by rules like grammar and syntax, shapes our ability to generate ideas. Are our thoughts truly our own? And how can we know anything beyond our own subjective experience?
The 60-minute piece is an interdisciplinary blend of contemporary dance, original music, digital art, interactive technique, and text. Drawing inspiration from science fiction, conflicting branches of philosophy, and everyday life, the performance utilises wireless sensors to create real-time connections between movement, sound, and visuals. The interactive system developed by the group allows the audiovisual environment to be continuously driven by the bodies, creating an intermedial causal network. The original texts provide context for the evolving themes, also projected in the form of Greek and English surtitles.
